Students at Dalhousie are encouraged to discuss their tutoring needs with instructors, departments and learning centers on campus.
Short-Term
If you are experiencing some difficulties in a course, and feel that additional tutoring support may be needed:
Many departments, such as Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics operate Learning Centres. They are staffed by trained senior undergraduate and graduate students to help with course content. Many do maintain a list of current senior or graduate students who are available for tutoring.
Students may contract privately to get a tutor through DalOnline Classifieds. If you are considering this option, proceed with caution. Before you commit your money or your time to a private tutor:
Long-Term
If you are looking for help to develop effective approaches to life-long learning (learn to tutor yourself), you may want to consider meeting with a Study Skills Coach. The Coach can make a more detailed assessment of your academic difficulties, and refer you to a tutor if needed, with more specific learning objectives.
You can request study skills/tutor support using the Request Study Skills/Tutor Support form. The Studying for Success Program Coordinator will set an appointment for you to meet with a Study Skills Coach.
